Frequently Asked Questions
Dyckman Marina is a public marina (like a park with access to the water) on the Hudson River located at 348 Dyckman Street in the Inwood neighborhood of northern Manhattan.
This project will reconstruct the Inwood Canoe Pier, Dyckman Fishing Pier, Dyckman Marina docks and adjacent shorelines at Fort Washington Park. You can read more at the NYC Parks site.
The Parks Department claims that the marina will close January 2026 and remain closed for up to two years. The Marine Division of the Parks department has given similar timelines for the other two marinas they've closed. Neither of those have been open for over 4 years.
When Dyckman is closed next year (2026), all four marinas operated directly by Parks will either be closed or under significant construction. The 79th Street Boat Basin construction was scheduled to begin in 2021, but the Marina is closed and the construction has not yet started. World’s Fair Marina is also a decade into construction. This is part of a larger pattern of closures and management issues that bear greater scrutiny. We are not the only community group that has experienced this.
The Marina is open to all members of the public. Anyone can launch a boat/kayak/canoe or other watercraft. The two biggest users of the site now are The Hudson Restaurant and Hudson River Community Sailing (HRCS).
HRCS provides low cost services to the public, school children, people with spinal disabilities and veterans. There is no alternative site for most of these people to access the Hudson River.
Along with HRCS the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, The Impossible Dream, Billion Oyster Project, Classic Harbor Line and others regularly use the Dyckman Marina.
Additionally, the community hosts movie and dance nights in a space adjacent to the restaurant.
In 2022 Community Board 12 (CB12) Parks and Cultural Affairs committee approved a version of the plan that lacked specifics. HRCS maintains that CB12 was not fully informed when voting on that resolution. HRCS first learned about the plan to re-site the fixed pier, and consequently re-construct the Dyckman Marina, at the same November 2022 CB12 Parks and Culture Committee meeting. At that meeting Parks representatives would not answer the questions of closure, contingency, or phasing, allowing the Community Board to pass the resolution without being fully informed of its impacts. It was many months before NYC Parks informed HRCS of its intention to fully close the marina, and a full year before HRCS received written notice from Commissioner Donoghue.
Since we learned about the potential closure of the Dyckman Marina in November of 2022, we have been working diligently to find solutions and to keep our constituents informed through town halls and updates. HRCS has remained engaged with NYC Parks on alternatives, and we were hopeful we could collaborate on a solution.
