Dyckman Marina is closing in 2026

Read below about the impact and how you can help

NYC Parks is closing the Dyckman Marina for construction in early 2026. Hudson River Community Sailing (HRCS) has operated at Dyckman Marina for a decade, offering youth development, adaptive, veterans, member, and public sailing to the local community.

While HRCS supports the waterfront revitalization, the project as it stands does not include two key elements: staging to allow access during construction, and needed improvements to the on-land facilities.

The closure is scheduled for two years, but many of Parks’ Marine projects are far behind schedule. Furthermore, the project lacks a comprehensive vision for a world-class facility, one with educational and community spaces.

HRCS must face the fact that we will be shut down at the end of the 2025 season and plan for the significant operational, financial, and programmatic impacts that the closure will have. We are doing everything we can to find access points for sailing and maritime education during the closure, and will update this site as we do so..

We ask that you help HRCS guide NYC Parks to a better solution. Please reach out to your elected officials to:

1

Urge Parks to reconsider a staging plan that will maintain access to the water during the reconstruction

2

Urge Parks to halt the Dyckman project until it completes its other marina projects, particularly 79th Street Boat Basin.

3

Urge Parks to create a comprehensive vision that prioritizes education, youth development, and recreation for people of all abilities

Public Access Programming

Closing Dyckman Marina will cut off access to the River for over 100 blocks.

HRCS provides free and reduced cost services to over 1000 New Yorkers annually.

Track Record of Closure

Parks says the closure will be for two years, but they have a track record of closing marinas and not reopening them:

  • The 79th Street Boat Basin closed in 2021, and the construction has not even begun in the 4 years since.
  • World's Fair Marina in Queens has been under construction since 2016, with no signs of completion.
